Boston home heating fuel is sold by volume and is routinely inspected by Weights and Measures officials. When oil is delivered to your home in Boston, the vendor must give you a delivery ticket that includes information such as the date of delivery, a serial number, quantity of oil delivered, and the name and address of the seller and buyer. If you do not receive a delivery ticket or there is missing or incorrect information on it, you can contact Boston's Inspectional Services.
If you are a Boston tenant, your landlord is responsible for maintaining your heating system. If you encounter a problem with your heating system that your landlord has not fixed, call the city of Boston's Inspectional Services Department. If you find yourself without heat and are unable to solve the problem you can contact the city of Boston's 24-hour "No Heat" response team.
