The city of Boston requires that you obtain a building permit specific to the type of work you wish to complete on your home. If you are building a new building or structure, adding on to a building or structure, repairing, renovating or demolishing a building or structure, changing the use and occupancy of a building, or removing any required means of exiting a building, it is necessary to obtain a Boston City building permit. A building permit will allow a Boston builder to work from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you need to extend the hours of work on your Boston construction, you must apply for another permit from the Assistant Commissioner of Buildings and Structures of Boston's Inspectional Services. A contractor's supervisor's license is required for anyone who supervises the building of a residential home.
